Meet Dr. Andrew Vasconcellos

Andrew Vasconcellos, MD

Dr. Vasconcellos is double board certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine, with additional training in Functional Medicine and Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement.

Dr. Vasconcellos is passionate in his mission to help patient’s live healthy and active lives. He believes in the importance of preventative medicine- and through his practice of both traditional and functional medicine is at the forefront of diagnostic and therapeutic treatment options to help you optimize your health and performance.

Dr. Vasconcellos is available to see patients throughout South Florida in our Boca Raton office, or via telemedicine for patients in Florida, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Dr. Vasconcellos was born in Caracas, Venezuela and grew up in Miami, receiving his undergraduate degree from Florida International University. After graduating from Ross University School of Medicine, he did his Internal Medicine Residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and his Rheumatology fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Throughout his training Dr. Vasconcellos participated in many aspects of research, with a focus on lupus, but his passion has always been patient care.

Following his training Dr. Vasconcellos practiced in several large, successful practices in Florida and Massachusetts where he discovered the need for a more personalized, individualized approach for each patient. The traditional one size fits all approach of Orthodox medicine, which values quantity of care over quality of care led him to pursuing additional training including Anti-Aging & Regenerative Medicine with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and Nutrition courses from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. He also pursued additional training and certification in Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy under the instruction of Dr. Neal Rouzier, a pioneer in the field.

He is happy to be returning home to South Florida to provide care to his local community. In his free time Dr. Vasconcellos enjoys spending time with his family and friends, exercising, watching football and futbol and playing with his dog Riley (an Australian-Shepherd).

“I was drawn to Rheumatology when my mom was diagnosed with Lupus when I was 15 and have never forgot what it was like to be on the other side of the doctor patient relationship. I have done my best to give every patient the care I would want for my own family. That is why after years of growing increasingly frustrated by traditional medicine- with its focus on sick care and valuing quantity over quality- I am delighted to be able to serve you at the Arthritis & Wellness Institute. Please enjoy our website and I look forward to meeting you.”
