Frequently asked questions about our Longevity Medicine programs

  • Longevity medicine is a relatively new medical discipline that focuses on optimizing health and longevity by addressing the root causes of aging and age-related diseases.

Our longevity medicine programs emphasizes a proactive, evidence-based, and personalized approach to healthcare with the goal of extending healthspan.

Longevity medicine is based on the principles of Medicine 3.0, a term coined by Dr. Peter Attia. You can read more about Medicine 3.0 in our blog post here (The Concept of Medicine 3.0)

  • Lifespan refers to the total number of years a person is alive. It is a quantitative measure of longevity.

Meanwhile Healthspan is the period of a person's life during which they are generally healthy, free from significant disease, disability, or chronic health issues. Healthspan focuses on the quality of life and overall well-being. It emphasizes the years of life spent in good health and functional capability.

Our goal at Vitality by AWI is to not only extend lifespan but also to maximize healthspan, allowing individuals to enjoy a longer period of life in good health and with a high quality of life.

  • Longevity medicine, with its basis in evidence based medicine and built on the foundations of lifestyle modifications is for everyone. In fact one of the key changes in Medicine 3.0 is changing our mindset in treating disease to one of prevention and optimization, instead of waiting for disease onset to begin treatment. Taking a proactive approach from a young age instead of being reactive can have significant lifespan and healthspan benefits.

That is not too say Longevity Medicine is only for the young. In fact a recent paper in Lancet showed lifestyle changes in patients over the age of 65, even in those at high genetic risk, is associated with lower mortality risk and longer life expectancy. As part of our intake we will focus on what activities are most important for each individual patient that they wish to enjoy in their marginal decade, and help create an action plan that allows our patient to achieve these goals.
